Anne-Marie Comparini Passes Away at 77

Anne-Marie Comparini, a prominent French politician and close ally of François Bayrou, has passed away at the age of 77. She died early Sunday at Lyon's Edouard-Herriot Hospital after being admitted on December 31. Known for her integrity and courage, Comparini was the first woman to lead the Rhône-Alpes region, serving as its president from 1999 to 2004. Her leadership was marked by her firm stance against the far-right and her dedication to public service.

A member of the UDF party, she also served as a deputy of the Rhône and held various political roles in Lyon.

Comparini retired from politics in 2007 but remained active in supporting centrist causes, including backing Emmanuel Macron in 2022. Tributes have poured in, with many praising her exemplary leadership and unwavering principles.
