Controversial Gala in Paris Sparks Debate

Published: 2024-11-12

The Paris police chief has decided not to ban a controversial gala organized by the association "Israel is Forever," despite calls for its cancellation from left-wing parties.

The event, scheduled for November 13, has drawn criticism due to the planned attendance of Bezalel Smotrich, Israel's far-right finance minister known for his inflammatory remarks.

Although Smotrich will not attend, the gala has sparked debate amid heightened tensions following recent violence against Israeli football fans in Amsterdam.

The Paris police chief, Laurent Nuñez, stated there was no legal basis to prohibit the event, emphasizing that it is a private gathering.

The administrative court supported this decision, citing a lack of imminent threat.

The event is seen as a mobilization of francophone Zionist forces, and security measures will be in place to ensure public order.
