A recent issue of the Montauban city magazine, "Ma Ville Mon Agglo," sparked outrage after featuring a photo of Marshal Philippe Pétain alongside the announcement of the 80th anniversary of the city's liberation.
The photo, taken during Pétain's visit in 1940, was included in the July/August edition, which also detailed upcoming ceremonies on August 19, 1944. Critics, including local politicians and members of the Socialist Party, condemned the choice as "unacceptable" and accused the mayor, Brigitte Barèges, of promoting historical revisionism.
The mayor's office defended the inclusion, stating the image is part of a museum exhibit that denounces collaboration.
However, the exhibit was not mentioned in the magazine, leading to calls for public apologies and immediate corrections in future publications.
