Edouard Philippe's Bold Political Vision

Published: 2025-03-17

Edouard Philippe, leader of the Horizons party and former Prime Minister, has outlined his vision for France as he prepares for a potential presidential bid in 2027. Speaking at a party congress in Lille, Philippe proposed significant reforms, including a three-tier pension system and a focus on balancing public finances within a decade.

He also suggested holding referendums on key issues like administrative organization and retirement policies to ensure public legitimacy.

Philippe criticized President Emmanuel Macron’s approach to referendums, calling it inconsistent with the spirit of the Fifth Republic.

Meanwhile, his political future faces challenges, including a financial investigation and the need to secure re-election as mayor of Le Havre in 2026. Despite these hurdles, Philippe remains committed to his goal of revitalizing French democracy and governance.
