Former French Justice Minister Michèle Alliot-Marie has been sentenced to six months in prison with a suspended sentence for illegal conflict of interest.

The charges relate to her time as deputy mayor of Saint-Jean-de-Luz from 2010 to 2012, where she allegedly facilitated the allocation of municipal funds to an association led by her father.

This association, which organized the city's Young Filmmakers Festival, reportedly received over €260,000 from the local tourism office, heavily subsidized by the municipality.

Alliot-Marie, a prominent figure in French politics, plans to appeal the decision.

The investigation, which began in 2013, highlighted her involvement in budgetary decisions that benefited the association.
