France and Poland have united in opposition to the proposed EU-Mercosur free trade agreement, citing concerns over unfair competition for their farmers.
French Agriculture Minister Annie Genevard emphasized that the current terms do not ensure fair competition, a sentiment echoed by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
The French National Assembly overwhelmingly supported the government's stance, with 484 votes against the deal.
Meanwhile, French farmers have intensified protests, blocking roads and targeting administrative offices, demanding stronger action against the agreement.
The opposition is not absolute, as some officials suggest amending the deal rather than rejecting all free trade agreements outright.
Diplomatic efforts are underway to form a minority bloc to prevent the deal's implementation.
