As France faces its first heatwave of 2024, with temperatures soaring up to 40°C, the transport authorities are ramping up their efforts to protect travelers and spectators during the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics.
The SNCF has activated its "heatwave plan," providing water bottles at major train stations, especially in the 56 departments under orange alert.
In addition, Île-de-France Mobilités has equipped 94 stations with water fountains and is distributing water in metro stations.
Despite the extreme heat, the Olympic organizing committee has not postponed any events, although athletes are advised to stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activities.
The situation raises concerns about climate change and its impact on future Olympic Games, as organizers strive to adapt to increasingly extreme weather conditions.
