French Lawyers Face Death Threats After Anti-Far-Right Stance

Published: 2024-07-11

A far-right website in France has sparked outrage by publishing a list of lawyers to 'eliminate,' targeting those who signed a petition against the National Rally party.

The site, 'Réseau Libre,' hosted in Russia, called for violence against nearly 100 lawyers from Paris and Caen.

In response, lawyers across France have protested, with about 100 demonstrating in Lyon.

The Paris Bar Association has filed a complaint, and the public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into death threats and cyberbullying.

Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti strongly condemned the threats, emphasizing the importance of protecting lawyers and democratic freedoms.

The incident has united the legal community in defense of the rule of law and against extremism.
