François Hollande, former President of France, has made a surprising political comeback by winning a seat in the National Assembly.
Running under the banner of the New Popular Front, Hollande secured victory in Corrèze's first constituency with 43.3% of the vote.
He defeated far-right candidate Maïtey Pouget and incumbent right-wing deputy Francis Dubois in a three-way race.
This marks Hollande's return to parliament after a 12-year hiatus, having previously served as a deputy from 1988 to 2012. The former president's decision to align with the left-wing alliance raised eyebrows, even within his own Socialist Party.
Hollande justified his move as a response to the growing threat of the far-right in French politics.
