The recent Hospices de Beaune wine auction, a prestigious charity event, fell short of previous records, raising €13.944 million, significantly less than the €29 million in 2022. Despite the presence of celebrities like Eva Longoria and Jean Reno, the star lot fetched only €360,000, with an additional €100,000 donation.
The auction was limited by a reduced number of lots due to adverse weather affecting the harvest.
The event, crucial for funding the Hospices' operations, saw a 2.5% increase in the average price per piece, indicating sustained interest in Burgundy wines.
The auction also marked the first bio-certified vintage, a milestone in the Hospices' environmental efforts, despite challenging weather conditions impacting the yield.
