Abdourahmane Ridouane, the president of the Pessac mosque in France, faces expulsion despite a recent court ruling that favored the renewal of his residency permit.
The French Interior Ministry ordered his expulsion due to controversial statements he made in support of Hamas and against Jews, which authorities deemed a threat to public order.
Ridouane, a Nigerien national who has lived in France since 1991, had been seeking to renew his residency since 2021. Although a Bordeaux administrative court ruled on August 1 that the prefecture's refusal to renew his permit was unjustified, the expulsion process is still underway.
His lawyer announced that the state must also pay €1,200 for Ridouane's legal fees.
The situation remains tense as authorities coordinate his potential return to Niger.
