Le Pen's 2022 Campaign Under Financial Scrutiny

Published: 2024-07-10

French prosecutors have opened a judicial investigation into suspected illegal financing of Marine Le Pen's 2022 presidential campaign.

The inquiry, launched on July 2, follows a report from France's campaign finance watchdog.

Allegations include improper loans, misuse of public funds, and fraud.

The investigation stems from questionable expenses, including a €316,182 bill for vehicle branding deemed irregular.

Le Pen's campaign spent nearly €11.5 million in total.

This probe adds to the far-right leader's legal woes, as she faces a separate trial in September for alleged misuse of EU funds.
