In November 2018, a catastrophic collapse of three buildings in Marseille's Noailles district claimed the lives of eight residents, highlighting severe neglect in the city's housing management.
The long-awaited trial, set to begin on November 7, will scrutinize the systemic failures that led to this tragedy.
Residents had repeatedly warned of the buildings' deteriorating conditions, but their pleas were ignored.
The trial will see 12 individuals and four organizations face charges, including involuntary manslaughter and endangering lives.
This case underscores the urgent need for reform in Marseille's housing policies, as the city grapples with the legacy of inadequate oversight and maintenance.
