Montmartre Boulistes Evicted for Hotel Expansion

In a controversial move, the historic pétanque club in Montmartre, Paris, has been evicted from its long-standing location to make way for a luxury hotel expansion.

The Club Lepic Abbesses Pétanque (CLAP) members, who have occupied the site for over 50 years, were forcibly removed by police on October 21, following a decision by the Conseil d'État favoring the city's plans.

The eviction has sparked public outcry, with notable figures like actor Fabrice Luchini criticizing the prioritization of luxury tourism over community heritage.

Despite the club's protests and a six-month occupation, the city plans to transform the area into a public green space, while the adjacent hotel will expand its terrace.

The decision has left many locals and club members disheartened, marking the end of an era for the Montmartre community.
