In a significant reshuffle, Louis Laugier has been appointed as the new Director General of the French National Police, while General Hubert Bonneau takes over as Director General of the Gendarmerie.
These appointments, announced by the government, follow the retirement of their predecessors, Frédéric Veaux and Christian Rodriguez, who were extended in their roles due to the Paris Olympics.
Laugier, previously the prefect of Isère, is recognized for his strategic vision, particularly in handling drug-related violence in Grenoble.
Meanwhile, Bonneau, a former leader of the elite GIGN unit, is noted for his role in the 2015 Charlie Hebdo attackers' pursuit.
Both leaders are expected to bring their extensive experience to strengthen their respective institutions.
