Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice, has announced his resignation as president of the Nice Côte d'Azur Metropolis, a position he has held since 2012. Estrosi cited deep political divisions and the rise of extremism as reasons for his departure.

During a metropolitan council meeting, he expressed concern over hostile declarations made against the metropolis and its actions.

Estrosi emphasized the importance of solidarity and collective interest, stating he could not lead an executive body that includes or supports far-right or far-left elected officials.

The resignation marks the end of an era for the metropolis, which unites 49 municipalities in the Alpes-Maritimes region.
