Starting Monday, Paris will implement a new traffic regulation in its central districts, prohibiting vehicles from merely passing through the first four arrondissements.
This initiative, part of Mayor Anne Hidalgo's campaign promise, aims to reduce pollution and free up public space.
Only emergency vehicles, buses, taxis, residents, and those with specific destinations will be allowed.
The measure, similar to those in cities like Madrid and Milan, is expected to decrease traffic by 30% on major roads like Avenue de l'Opéra.
While the city anticipates improved air quality and reduced noise, some opposition voices fear it might harm the area's commercial and cultural vibrancy.
The regulation will initially focus on educating the public before moving to enforcement.
