Protests Erupt Over Barnier's Appointment

Published: 2024-09-08

Thousands of protesters took to the streets across France on September 7th, opposing the appointment of Michel Barnier as Prime Minister.

The demonstrations, organized by youth unions and left-wing parties, were a response to what they call a 'coup de force' by President Emmanuel Macron.

In Paris, the protest began at Place de la Bastille, with participants carrying banners demanding Macron's resignation and expressing dissatisfaction with the political process.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of La France Insoumise, joined the march, criticizing Macron's decision and calling for a vote of no confidence against the government.

Despite the large turnout, the protests remained peaceful, highlighting the public's frustration with the current administration's disregard for electoral outcomes.

Meanwhile, Barnier, during his first official visit, emphasized his commitment to healthcare, acknowledging the challenges ahead without promising miracles.
