A 30-year-old man known for his radical Islamist views has been charged with attempted murder and other serious offenses after attacking a taxi driver near Le Mans, France.

The incident occurred on July 16, when the suspect, armed with a handgun and a knife, forced the driver to an isolated area, where he attempted to cut the driver's throat.

The victim managed to escape and alert authorities.

Following a two-day manhunt, the suspect was arrested in Poissy on July 19. He had recently been released from prison after serving time for unrelated crimes and was under surveillance due to his radicalization.

Several accomplices, including a woman who allegedly helped him hide, have also been charged in connection with the attack.
