Rima Hassan, a newly elected MEP from La France Insoumise, is under scrutiny after participating in a pro-Hamas demonstration in Amman, Jordan.
Her actions have prompted 51 Renaissance deputies to request the lifting of her parliamentary immunity, citing her involvement as a provocation to racial hatred and an endorsement of terrorism.
The demonstration featured tributes to Hamas leader Ismaïl Haniyeh, killed in Tehran, and included slogans perceived as anti-Semitic.
Hassan, however, denies these allegations, asserting that the gathering was a routine pro-Palestinian event.
The deputies have also filed a legal complaint, urging disciplinary measures to uphold European Union values.
The controversy has sparked a broader debate on the limits of political expression and the responsibilities of elected officials.
