A high-profile trial is underway at the Paris Correctional Court, focusing on allegations of financial misconduct within the satirical weekly, Le Canard enchaîné.
The case centers on Edith Vandenvaele, wife of cartoonist André Escaro, who is accused of holding a fictitious position for 26 years.
The trial, which began on October 8, involves four defendants, including former leaders Michel Gaillard and Nicolas Brimo, who are charged with misusing company funds and falsifying documents.
The alleged financial damage is estimated at 1.45 million euros, reduced from an initial 3 million due to legal prescription.
The investigation was initiated by journalist Christophe Nobili, who uncovered the irregularities in 2022. Despite claims of innocence from the publication's management, the trial could be postponed due to Escaro's poor health.
