Heavy rains in Paris have raised concerns about the water quality of the Seine ahead of the upcoming triathlon events scheduled for July 30 and 31. The organizing committee announced the cancellation of the swimming training session planned for July 28 due to elevated levels of bacteria in the river.
Despite this setback, officials remain optimistic that the water quality will improve in time for the competitions, thanks to favorable weather forecasts.
The triathlon is a key event, marking the first Olympic competition to take place in the Seine, with additional events planned for early August.
Authorities have invested significantly in improving the river's cleanliness, and recent tests showed that the water met health standards six days out of seven in mid-July.
However, the unusually high flow rate of the Seine, caused by recent rainfall, poses additional challenges for athletes preparing for the event.
