Severe thunderstorms in Haute-Marne, northeastern France, led to significant flooding over the weekend, resulting in five hospitalizations, primarily for hypothermia.
The intense weather began around 7 PM on Saturday, with some areas receiving ten times the normal rainfall in just one hour.
Emergency services conducted 80 interventions, and by 1 AM, six departmental roads were closed, leaving around 60 homes without electricity.
The prefecture reported that 34 individuals were evacuated to a local community center.
The flooding caused considerable damage, with reports of over a meter of water in streets and homes in affected areas like Bologne and Meures.
Météo-France confirmed that more than 50 mm of rain fell in one hour, exacerbating the situation.
Authorities warned that further heavy rainfall could lead to rapid water level rises due to already saturated ground.
