Severe Weather Hits France with Hurricane Kirk

Published: 2024-10-07

France is bracing for severe weather as Hurricane Kirk, a Category 4 storm, approaches, bringing heavy rains and strong winds.

The country is already experiencing widespread showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the Pyrenees, Jura, and Alsace regions.

The southern parts of France are facing disruptions due to a Cévenol episode, with the South experiencing mild temperatures due to southern winds.

However, the situation is expected to worsen, with Météo-France issuing an orange alert for the departments of Lozère, Ardèche, and Gard due to potential flooding.

These areas could see rainfall amounts reaching up to 200 millimeters in a short period.

The alert is expected to last until Tuesday morning.

As the week progresses, the effects of Hurricane Kirk will be felt along the French coasts, with strong winds predicted to hit by Wednesday.
