In a surprising turn of events, Aurélie Trouvé of La France Insoumise (LFI) has been elected as the president of the Economic Affairs Committee in the French National Assembly.
This unexpected victory came amid tensions between the macronist camp and their allies, Les Républicains (LR).
The position, previously expected to go to Stéphane Travert of Ensemble pour la République, was won by Trouvé with 27 votes against Travert's 25. The election highlighted the lack of cohesion within the ruling coalition, as disagreements between the macronists and LR led to a split in votes.
Prime Minister Michel Barnier expressed concern over the coalition's solidarity, emphasizing the need for unity to address national challenges.
The outcome has sparked frustration among macronists and LR, each blaming the other for the election result.
