Synagogue Arson Attack Shocks France

Published: 2024-08-24

In a shocking incident early Saturday morning, the Beth Yaacov synagogue in La Grande-Motte, Hérault, was targeted in a criminal arson attack.

Two vehicles parked near the synagogue were set ablaze, one of which contained a gas cylinder that exploded, injuring a police officer.

Fortunately, the five individuals inside the synagogue, including the rabbi, were unharmed.

The attack, which occurred just before the Shabbat service, has been linked to antisemitic motives, prompting an investigation by the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor's Office.

Surveillance footage shows a suspect, described as wearing a keffieh and a Palestinian flag, fleeing the scene.

The incident has sparked outrage and a strong response from French officials, who have mobilized significant police resources to apprehend the perpetrator.

The local community remains on high alert as investigations continue.
