In a tragic incident, four migrants, including a two-year-old child, lost their lives while attempting to cross the English Channel from France to the UK.
The Pas-de-Calais prefecture and Boulogne-sur-Mer prosecutor confirmed the deaths, which occurred between Friday night and Saturday morning.
The child was found unresponsive in an overcrowded boat that had called for help, while three adults were found dead in another vessel.
This brings the total number of migrant deaths in 2024 to 51, marking it as the deadliest year since the start of these perilous crossings in 2018. The UK and French authorities have condemned the human traffickers responsible for these dangerous journeys, vowing to intensify efforts to combat illegal immigration and the smuggling networks profiting from these tragedies.
