Laurent Wauquiez, leader of the Republican Right group in the French Assembly, has declined a ministerial position in the new government led by Prime Minister Michel Barnier.

Wauquiez, who was offered the role of Minister of Economy and Finance, chose to remain at the helm of his parliamentary group, emphasizing his commitment to a true right-wing policy.

Despite stepping back from a ministerial role, Wauquiez announced that the Republicans will hold nine positions in Barnier's government, including key roles such as Bruno Retailleau as Minister of the Interior.
