The Braderie de Lille, one of Europe's largest flea markets, has kicked off this weekend, attracting around 2.5 million visitors despite being postponed by two weeks due to the Paris Paralympic Games.
The event, traditionally held on the first weekend of September, features 5,500 exhibitors, including local residents, merchants, and antique dealers.
The city of Lille emphasizes sustainability by banning the sale of new products, promoting the event as Europe's largest showcase for reuse.
Security is a top priority, with 3,000 state agents deployed to ensure safety.
Additionally, Lille encourages the recycling of 500 tonnes of mussels consumed during the event, and any leftover food will be shared in a community meal on Monday.
