In the wake of recent French legislative elections, the right-wing Les Républicains (LR) party is positioning itself as a potential kingmaker.
Despite being the fourth-largest group in the National Assembly, LR leaders are calling for one of their own to be appointed Prime Minister.
Xavier Bertrand and Olivier Marleix, two prominent LR figures, have proposed this idea as a solution to the country's institutional crisis.
They argue that a government including LR members could prevent paralysis and block the left, particularly Jean-Luc Mélenchon's 'insoumis' faction.
This move comes as the presidential camp, led by Emmanuel Macron, faces challenges in forming a majority, with some members advocating for an alliance with LR.
