Serge Atlaoui, a 61-year-old Frenchman, has returned to France after spending 19 years in Indonesian prisons, including time on death row.

Convicted in 2007 for drug trafficking, Atlaoui has always maintained his innocence, claiming he was misled into installing machinery in what he believed was an acrylic factory.

His death sentence was commuted following intense diplomatic efforts, and his return was secured through a humanitarian agreement due to his deteriorating health.

Atlaoui will now face legal proceedings in France, with his lawyer seeking a reduction or adaptation of his sentence.

His case has drawn significant attention, highlighting Indonesia's strict anti-drug laws and sparking debates on the death penalty.
