Sarkozy Wears Electronic Bracelet

Published: 2025-02-08

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has become the first ex-head of state in France to wear an electronic bracelet following his corruption conviction.

On February 7, the bracelet was fitted at his home, restricting his movements to specific hours.

This follows his final appeal being rejected in December 2024, confirming a one-year prison sentence for corruption and influence peddling in the "Bismuth" case.

Sarkozy, now 70, can request conditional release under French law.

Meanwhile, he continues to face trial over alleged Libyan financing of his 2007 presidential campaign.

Sarkozy maintains his innocence and plans to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.
