France's Education Minister, Elisabeth Borne, has announced new measures to tackle school violence.
Starting this spring, random bag checks will be conducted at school entrances.
This initiative aims to address the rising use of weapons among students.
The checks will involve law enforcement, as school staff are not authorized to perform them.
Additionally, any student found carrying a weapon will face a disciplinary council and a mandatory report to the prosecutor.
This decision follows a series of violent incidents, including a recent stabbing of a 17-year-old student in Bagneux.
Over 20 schools in Seine-Saint-Denis are already under police surveillance to prevent further violence.
