Reports of sexual violence in public transport have surged by 86% over the past decade, with 3,374 cases recorded in 2024 alone, according to a recent study.
Women remain the primary victims, making up 91% of cases, with 75% under 30 years old and 36% minors.
Île-de-France accounts for 44% of these incidents, highlighting the region's vulnerability.
Authorities have emphasized the importance of the 3117 emergency hotline, which has improved response times and increased arrests by 30% in 2024. Despite these efforts, only 12% of users have utilized the hotline, underscoring the need for greater awareness.
Enhanced measures, including video surveillance and online complaint forms, aim to empower victims and ensure safer travel.
However, experts stress that more work is needed to address this pervasive issue.
