In a surprising turn of events, Emmanuelle Ménard, the incumbent far-right deputy of Béziers, has been unseated in the 2024 French legislative elections.
Julien Gabarron, the National Rally (RN) candidate, secured a decisive victory with 47.3% of the votes, leaving Ménard trailing at 29.2%.
This upset marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Béziers, where the Ménard couple had long held sway.
The result reflects a broader trend in the Hérault department, with the RN gaining ground and now holding five out of nine seats.
Despite Emmanuelle Ménard's previous strong performance and her husband Robert's influence as mayor, the national RN wave proved too powerful to resist.
