Following recent snap legislative elections in France, women's representation in the National Assembly has declined to 36% of the 577 deputies, down from 37.3% in 2022. This marks the second consecutive decrease since 2017 when women held a historic 38.8% of seats.
The Nouveau Front Populaire (NFP) leads with 40.4% female representatives, while Les Républicains trail with only 30.8%.
Political parties blame the urgency of the campaign for the setback in gender parity.
Despite the decline, this remains the third-highest representation of women in the Fifth Republic.
The average age of deputies is 49 years and 2 months, with the youngest being 22 and the oldest 81.
