In Indre-et-Loire, France, five probable cases of botulism have been linked to the consumption of a locally produced wild garlic pesto from the brand "O Ptits Oignons.
" The affected individuals, who shared a family meal, are currently hospitalized in intensive care.
The outbreak has prompted the French Ministry of Agriculture to recall all jars of the pesto due to inadequate sterilization processes during production.
The pesto was sold at various local events, raising concerns about further cases.
Botulism, a rare but potentially fatal illness caused by a toxin from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, can lead to severe neurological symptoms.
Consumers are advised to discard any remaining jars and seek medical attention if symptoms arise.
