Court Orders Sciences Po to Host Controversial Talk

Published: 2024-11-22

The Paris Administrative Court has ruled that Sciences Po Paris must allow a previously banned conference by Rima Hassan, a Franco-Palestinian MEP from La France Insoumise, to proceed.

Initially prohibited due to concerns over public order, the court found no substantial evidence that the event would incite illegal actions.

The conference, organized by Students for Justice, focuses on humanitarian and geopolitical perspectives regarding an arms embargo on Israel.

The court's decision is seen as a significant victory for freedom of expression, with Hassan's lawyer emphasizing the importance of safeguarding liberties amid increasing censorship of Palestinian-related discussions.

Other universities, including Lille and Strasbourg, have also faced legal challenges over similar bans on Hassan's talks.
