Former French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne has announced her candidacy for the leadership of the Renaissance party, the political group associated with President Emmanuel Macron.
In an interview with Le Parisien, Borne emphasized her goal to "broadly unite" the party, which she believes is crucial for maintaining its unity.
The Renaissance party is set to hold a congress by the end of November to elect its new executive.
Borne's candidacy comes amid speculation that Gabriel Attal, currently the president of the parliamentary group, might also vie for the leadership.
However, Borne pointed out that traditionally, one does not hold both the group presidency and party leadership simultaneously.
Her announcement marks a significant move in the political landscape as the party prepares for future challenges, including the 2026 municipal elections.
