France Urged to Support Vulnerable Youth

The French Court of Auditors has highlighted the urgent need to improve support for young adults leaving the child welfare system (ASE).

Despite laws like the 2022 Taquet Act, which mandates care until age 21 for those without resources, disparities persist across regions.

The report reveals that nearly half of homeless individuals aged 18-25 are former ASE beneficiaries, underscoring the critical need for consistent support.

While progress has been made in areas like housing and healthcare, gaps remain in financial aid and social integration.

Pierre Moscovici, head of the Court, called for a strategic plan to enhance public policies for youth, emphasizing their role as the foundation of the nation's future.

The report urges stronger collaboration with local missions and the establishment of minimum care standards to prevent vulnerable youth from falling through the cracks.
