Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo is set to fulfill her promise of swimming in the Seine River, just days before the Olympic Games.
Alongside Tony Estanguet, president of the Paris 2024 organizing committee, and Marc Guillaume, prefect of Île-de-France, Hidalgo will take the plunge on Wednesday morning.
This symbolic swim marks a significant milestone in the €1.4 billion project to clean up the Seine, making it suitable for Olympic events and public swimming.
The initiative aims to host triathlon and open-water swimming competitions in the river during the Games.
Despite recent concerns about water quality, recent tests have shown positive results, paving the way for this historic event and the future of urban swimming in Paris.
