Paris Tightens Pollution Rules for 2025

Published: 2024-12-16

Starting January 1, 2025, vehicles with Crit’Air 3 classification, including older diesel and petrol cars, will face restrictions in the Greater Paris Low Emission Zone (ZFE).

However, these vehicles will be allowed to circulate freely for 139 days annually, including weekends and 24 additional days.

The ZFE aims to combat air pollution, which causes nearly 5,000 premature deaths annually in the region.

Critics have expressed disappointment over the government's reduced financial support for cleaner vehicle purchases, which could hinder the policy's social acceptance.

The ZFE covers 77 municipalities within the A86 ring road, operating weekdays from 8 AM to 8 PM.

Similar measures are being implemented in Lyon, with other cities expected to follow by 2024.
