Paris Votes for Greener Streets

Parisians have voted in favor of transforming 500 streets into green, pedestrian-friendly spaces.

In a referendum held on March 23, 66% supported the initiative, though turnout was low at just 3.9%.

The project aims to reduce car use and create "garden streets" within 300 meters of every resident.

However, the plan has sparked debate, with supporters praising its environmental benefits and critics raising concerns about parking and economic impacts.

The city estimates the cost at €500,000 per street, with implementation expected over the next three to four years.

This marks another step in Mayor Anne Hidalgo's vision of a greener, less car-dependent Paris.
