Three police officers in Paris will stand trial for involuntary manslaughter in the death of Cédric Chouviat, a 42-year-old delivery driver.
Chouviat died in January 2020 after being restrained during a police stop, repeatedly saying "I can't breathe" before collapsing.
He was hospitalized and died two days later.
Investigators found the officers acted negligently, leading to his asphyxiation.
The case has become a symbol of police violence, drawing comparisons to the death of George Floyd in the U.
S. The trial is seen as a critical moment for addressing police accountability in France, though the family’s lawyers argue the charges should reflect intentional violence.
