Severe Thunderstorms Threaten Southern France

Published: 2024-07-11

Eight departments in southern France, from the Pyrenees to the Massif Central, are on orange alert for violent thunderstorms expected on Thursday, July 11th.

Météo-France warns of potential hail, heavy rainfall, and wind gusts up to 100 km/h starting at 6 PM.

The affected areas include Aveyron, Cantal, Lot, Lozère, Haute-Garonne, Haute-Loire, Tarn, and Tarn-et-Garonne.

Authorities caution about possible damage to light structures and rapid flooding in low-lying areas.

Residents are advised to stay away from trees and waterways, seek shelter in sturdy buildings, and avoid unnecessary travel during the storms.

Meanwhile, the southeast of France continues to experience high summer temperatures, with maximums reaching 30 to 35°C.
