Far-right RN enters French Assembly with mixed feelings

Published: 2024-07-10

The Rassemblement National (RN), France's far-right party, made its entry into the National Assembly on Wednesday with 125 deputies.

Led by Marine Le Pen, the party significantly increased its presence, becoming the largest opposition group.

However, the mood was mixed, as the RN fell short of its ambitious goal of securing an absolute majority.

Le Pen criticized President Macron for the election results and accused the left-wing alliance of planning to forcefully take control of the prime minister's office.

The party faces internal challenges, including controversial statements from some new deputies and strict rules on personal opinions.

Despite these issues, the RN is already anticipating another dissolution of parliament, viewing it as an opportunity for further gains.
