A fire broke out on Thursday at the iconic Rouen Cathedral in France, causing alarm but fortunately resulting in minimal damage.

The blaze, which started around midday, affected plastic sheeting on scaffolding surrounding the cathedral's 151-meter-high spire, currently undergoing restoration.

Approximately 70 firefighters swiftly responded, containing the fire and declaring it extinguished by 5 PM.

No major damage was reported to the Gothic structure, and the interior, including artworks, was preserved.

The cathedral reopened to the public on Friday morning.

An investigation is underway, with prosecutors suggesting the cause was likely accidental.
