France Faces Intense Heatwave Alert

Published: 2024-08-12

France is currently experiencing its second heatwave of the year, with temperatures soaring across much of the country.

On Monday, August 12, 40 departments have been placed under orange alert by Météo-France, as temperatures are expected to reach between 36°C and 38°C in regions including Paris, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, and the Centre.

The heatwave, characterized by high nighttime temperatures, is expected to ease by Tuesday morning, with cooler weather moving in from the west.

However, the extreme heat will persist in the southeast and Corsica.

This heatwave follows a similar event in late July and is part of a broader trend of rising global temperatures, with 2024 potentially being the hottest year on record.

Authorities are urging the public to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, and take precautions to protect vulnerable populations, especially the elderly.
