Bruno Bernard, president of the Lyon metropolitan area, has urgently called for state support following severe floods in the Rhône region.
The floods, described as a centennial event, have caused significant damage, including road collapses and landslides.
Bernard estimates the repair costs for roads and sanitation at 7 million euros, with potential for further increases as more damage is uncovered.
He emphasizes the need for state and insurance support to restore public health and safety.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Michel Barnier, during a visit to the flood-affected area, highlighted the urgency of addressing climate change impacts, unveiling a national adaptation plan.
This plan aims to prepare for a 4°C temperature rise by 2100, focusing on risk prevention and infrastructure adaptation.
