The attempt to impeach French President Emmanuel Macron, initiated by the left-wing party La France Insoumise (LFI), has been definitively rejected.
The proposal was dismissed by the conference of presidents at the National Assembly, following an earlier rejection by the law commission.
The impeachment effort stemmed from Macron's decision to appoint Michel Barnier as Prime Minister, bypassing Lucie Castets, the candidate from the leading left coalition.
Despite the historic nature of the debate, the proposal faced overwhelming opposition, with major political groups, including Macron's allies and the right-wing parties, voting against it.
The LFI criticized the decision, accusing Marine Le Pen of aiding Macron by abstaining from the vote.
The impeachment required a two-thirds majority in both the Assembly and the Senate, a threshold it was unlikely to meet.
